Hashtag limit
On 18 December 2025, Instagram’s @creators account said captions would allow up to 5 hashtags on a post or reel, down from 30. Instagram is rolling the change out gradually.
This counter warns you as soon as a caption has more than 5, so your caption is ready either way. Pick the few hashtags that describe the post best.
