Why can't I connect my Instagram?

Most failed connections come down to the account type, the permissions screen or a phone browser. Here's what each message means and what to do.

Find the message you saw below. The normal steps are in How do I connect my Instagram?

"This Instagram is a personal account."

Waveloop works with professional accounts, Business or Creator. Switch for free in the Instagram app, then click Continue with Meta (or Reconnect Instagram) again. Your followers and posts stay the same.

"Instagram wasn't connected."

You cancelled on Instagram's screen, or something went wrong on the way back. Click Continue with Meta (or Reconnect Instagram) again and tap Allow.

"Instagram didn't give Waveloop access."

Waveloop needs each permission Instagram asks for, to read comments and send DMs. Click Continue with Meta again and allow them all. Here's what each one is for.

"Start the connection again."

The return from Instagram took too long, or it opened in a different browser. Start again and finish in the same browser.

"Instagram didn't finish the connection."

Something went wrong while Instagram was linking your account. Wait a minute, then try again. On a phone, open the page in Safari or Chrome first. The Instagram app's own browser can block the connection.

The wrong account connected

Instagram connects the account it's logged in to. Switch to the right account in the Instagram app, then connect again. On a Reconnect, Waveloop checks this for you: if a different account comes back, it tells you which one and changes nothing.

The Instagram is on another Waveloop login

Connecting it here moves it to this login. The automations built on the other login stay there and stop running. Each Instagram can use the Pro free trial once, so moving it doesn't start a new one.

One case can't move on its own: "This Instagram is on a paid plan in another account." Email us and we'll move it for you.

"This Instagram can't be connected."

Trying again won't change this. If you think it's a mistake, email us.

You've hit 25 accounts

One login holds up to 25 Instagram accounts. Disconnect one in Connections to add another.

It worked before

If your automations stopped or your dashboard says Reconnect, follow these steps. Your automations and contacts stay in place.
