You'll need a Creator or Business Instagram account — not a personal one. This is a Meta requirement for using the Instagram Graph API, and switching is free and instant inside the Instagram app under Settings → Account type and tools . Once you're on a Creator or Business account, Waveloop can send and reply to DMs on your behalf.

What automation types can I build?

Waveloop has three core automation types, each triggered a different way: Comment-to-DM — someone comments on a post or reel and gets an instant DM. Keyword DM reply — someone DMs you a trigger word and gets an automatic reply. Story-reply automation — someone replies to your story and gets a DM back. You can run all three at once, and as many of each as your plan allows.

How do keywords work?

You set one or more trigger words for an automation. When a comment, DM, or story reply contains any of them, the automation fires. Matching is case-insensitive — “LINK”, “Link”, and “link” all count. Add as many keywords as you like so people can trigger it however they naturally phrase it.

Can I reply publicly to the comment too?

Yes. On a Comment-to-DM automation you can post a public reply to the comment in addition to the private DM — great for a quick “Check your DMs! 📧” that shows other people the automation is live. Public replies are sent within Meta’s 7-day comment-reply window.

Can I add buttons or links to the DM?

Yes — you can add both buttons and links to your message. By default, links pass through Waveloop’s safe loader so you get click data, unless you turn link tracking off, in which case the raw link is sent as-is.

What is a follow gate?

A follow gate requires the person to follow you before they receive the DM or link . If they’re not following yet, Waveloop asks them to follow first, then delivers the message once they do — a simple way to turn every automation into a follower magnet. Follow gates are free on every plan, including Hobby .

Can I collect emails or leads?

Where is my public page?

Your page lives at app.waveloopai.com/u/ , where is your Instagram username. Copy that URL into your Instagram bio and it's live. You can preview and share it any time from the builder under Links in your dashboard.

What does Link Tracking track?

Accepted Answer

When you send a link from a DM automation, Waveloop can wrap it so you see how many people actually clicked — total clicks, unique clicks, and which automation drove them. Will it break my affiliate or Amazon links?

Some affiliate and Amazon links are sensitive to being wrapped or redirected. If you'd rather send the raw, untouched URL, just turn tracking OFF for that automation — the link goes out exactly as you pasted it, and your affiliate attribution stays intact. Tracking is a per-automation switch, so you can keep it on where it helps and off where it doesn't.

Never. You connect through Instagram's own secure login and authorization screen — we never see, store or handle your password. The connection uses a revocable token issued by Meta, and you can disconnect Waveloop at any time from your Instagram settings.

Once someone replies to one of your DM automations, you can ask for their email as a next step — a great way to turn Instagram interest into a mailing list you actually own. Why did my UPI payment fail or time out?

UPI AutoPay needs you to approve the recurring mandate request inside your UPI app within a few minutes. If you miss that window, the request times out — this is a UPI mandate timeout, not a problem with your account. Just retry the payment, or switch to a card for instant activation.

What Instagram account type do I need?

You’ll need an Instagram Creator or Business account — both are free to switch to inside the Instagram app under Settings → Account type and tools. Personal accounts can’t use Meta’s messaging APIs, so Waveloop can’t automate them. Switching to Creator or Business takes under a minute and keeps all your existing posts and followers.

How do I connect my Instagram?

From your dashboard, open the Connections screen and select “Connect Instagram”. This launches Meta’s official OAuth login — you sign in on Meta’s own screen and approve the permissions there. Waveloop never sees or handles your password; we simply receive a secure access token that lets us send and reply on your behalf.

Waveloop asks for permissions — is that safe?

Yes. Those are Meta’s standard scopes for messaging and comments, granted through the official Instagram Graph API — the same infrastructure Meta requires of every approved partner. Can I connect more than one account?

My automations stopped or say “reconnect” — what do I do?

Instagram access tokens expire periodically, or you may have changed your password — when that happens, Waveloop pauses your automations to stay safe. Just open the Connections screen and click Reconnect to log in again through Meta. Your paused automations resume exactly where they left off; nothing is lost.

How do I switch between accounts?

Use the workspace switcher in the app to jump between your connected Instagram accounts. Each workspace is fully separate, so switching changes your automations, contacts, and analytics to that account — no logging out or reconnecting required.

How do I disconnect or delete my data?

Never. You log in directly on Meta’s official screen, and Meta never shares your password with us. Waveloop only holds a revocable access token issued through the Instagram Graph API — there is no browser automation, no scraping, and no password on our servers, ever.
