A follow gate asks people to follow you before they get your link. It works on comment automations only, on the Pro plan and up. Pro starts with a 7-day free trial. In Waveloop it's also called follow to unlock.
What the commenter sees
- They comment your keyword.
- They get an opening DM with one button, like "Send me the link".
- They tap it, and Waveloop checks with Instagram whether they follow you.
- If they do, your DM with the link arrives.
- If they don't, they get a message with a Follow Us button that opens your profile, and an I'm following button. Once they follow and tap it, the link arrives.
Can people fake it?
Not by tapping the button. Each time someone taps, Waveloop asks Instagram whether they follow you, and the link only arrives once Instagram confirms it. Like any follower, they can still unfollow later.
Turn it on
- Open a comment automation and click Setup Message.
- Tick Require follow before link.
- Edit the opening message, the opening button label and the message for people who aren't following yet. Leave the opening message blank to use the default.
- Click Save Message.
Every new follower the gate wins shows up as Followers gained on your Home dashboard.
On Free
On Free, you see the follow gate in the builder with a lock. If an automation already has it on, for example after a Pro plan ends, the DM and your link go out straight away, without the follow step. Your settings are kept, and the follow gate works again when you upgrade.
Make the opening message say what they'll get, like "Tap below and I'll send the full recipe." People tap more when they know what's coming.
